Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is
Mary E. Porter, the Founder and President of the No Vet
Left Behind, Inc.
In 1980, I graduated from Derby High School in Derby,
Connecticut. Thereafter, I decided to join the United
States Army, and was honorably discharged as a Disabled
Veteran of the Post-Vietnam Era. I then decided to
continue my education at Gateway Community College in
New Haven, Connecticut, where I received my Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies in
2011.
Being a veteran myself, I made the decision to dedicate
my life to serving U.S. Veteran Soldiers, and their
families. My other reason for establishing this
organization, was to commemorate my father, David
M. Smith, who himself was a Disabled Veteran of the
United States Army and Air Force, during the Korean War;
where he became an honored recipient of a Purple Heart
and other distinguished military awards for his
accomplishments.
Our mission at the No Vet Left Behind, Inc. is to serve
our homeless veterans, returning soldiers, and their
families; with housing, while providing them with
necessary resources. In addition, we assist in
helping them regain their dignity and independence, in
which the Veterans Affairs System recognizes them for
their commitment and dedication. Veterans struggle
with the issues of substance abuse, and Post Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD), whereby alternative medical
treatments have shown to be ineffective.
With great honor, I have made it my mission to advocate
and be the voice for struggling veterans, while helping
them prepare to re-enter society.
Associated titles:
- Advocate for Veterans Rights.
- Veterans Counselor (Being once a female
soldier myself, I am knowledgeable of the
difficulties female soldiers face, not only
in the military today, also how we are
treated as veterans).
- Owner of the Stars and Stripes Thrift
Shoppe (with proper ID as a veteran, we
offer clothing, furniture, access to our
food pantry at no cost to the Veterans).
- Notary Republic - At no cost to the
veterans.
- Justice of the peace - To join two souls
together to make one. For my veteran
family, there is no cost to them but love.
